The Mormon Church LDS Family Search pages has the entire catalog of genealogical books at Salt Lake City. Many, many records are on film and can be orded at your local Family History Library. Also search by surname. Recently added is the incredible Ellis Island database.

Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet with section on Eastern European resources.

Family Tree Maker. I use Broderbunds FTM software to make my charts. They have a clearinghouse for people to submit their trees.
