On Uncle Zoli
translated from a letter from Emoke Brull [4]

I think, I have to reminisce about some other members of the family: my father's younger brother uncle Zoli, who [with] his wife, Olga Korn and little daughter, Zsuzsi was residing in Kispest. My uncle was working at a lumber wholesaler in Pestszentlorinc as an accountant. His wife died due to throat infection within 3 days, in 1942. He was taken to the Russian Front as a forced laborer. He burned to death, when a retreating German and Hungarian soldiers torched up a hospital full with forced laborers. Little Zsuzsi was 16 years old in 1944. The orphan child had no place [to go] at either her mother" s older brother or her father"s younger sister.[5]  My mother , the widow took her in, and we [all the three of us] went to Auschwitz together. Her generation did not survive [there]. We tried to hide her, but they separated us and finally they killed her with gas. That"s how this branch of our family became extinct.

On My Brother Jakab's Son, My God Son Zoltán
Diary of Geza Simon, 1901

His [Jakab's third] son Zoltán also participated in the war, and after the battle of Piave, since the war was over, luckily he also returned home.
