On Uncle Zoli
|
| I think, I have to reminisce about some other members of the family: my father's younger brother uncle Zoli, who [with] his wife, Olga Korn and little daughter, Zsuzsi was residing in Kispest. My uncle was working at a lumber wholesaler in Pestszentlorinc as an accountant. His wife died due to throat infection within 3 days, in 1942. He was taken to the Russian Front as a forced laborer. He burned to death, when a retreating German and Hungarian soldiers torched up a hospital full with forced laborers. Little Zsuzsi was 16 years old in 1944. The orphan child had no place [to go] at either her mother" s older brother or her father"s younger sister.[5] My mother , the widow took her in, and we [all the three of us] went to Auschwitz together. Her generation did not survive [there]. We tried to hide her, but they separated us and finally they killed her with gas. That"s how this branch of our family became extinct. |
On My Brother Jakab's Son, My God Son Zoltán

His [Jakab's third] son Zoltán also participated in the war, and after the battle of Piave, since the war was over, luckily he also returned home. |
