SZEKELEY Sandor
aka SCHWARTZ Sandor

Otto Szekely on his father Sandor

He was the first among the Schwartzs who had some higher education. After graduating from high school, he spent one or two college years in Berlin, studying economy. In WWI he was a highly decorated officer in the rank of first lieutenant.

After the war, he worked in the timber industry in the eastern part of Hungary. Later he moved to Budapest, were he worked at the Bloch, Oszkar chemical company in the capacity of a financial manager. In addition to his main job, he took another part time job as a bookkeeper in the Kakuk (Cuckoo) Restaurant, for extra income.

In the early 40s, because of his war record, he got exceptions from the 1st and 2nd Jewish laws, which means that he was able too keep his job for awhile. Later nothing mattered, and in July 1944 he was taken from Budapest to Auschwitz and was killed there
