Daughter MAHLER Terez (Therese) Teacher immigrated to America in 1903.[11][13][14] Theresa's husband's first name was Morton.[7] Theresa had 4 children. She died sometime after 1957. Therese and Emilie (Millie) came to the US first with the intention of making money and sending for the rest of the family. They sent money for others to follow (maybe $300) which was put in a bank in Hungary and then wiped out by hyper inflation.[1]

Earliest records show Baker Jozsef MAHLER & his wife Sara MANDELBAUM had several children in Marghita, Hungary (now Romania) and then moving to Nagyvarad, Hungary (now Oradea, Romania) between 1870-1873 where they had more children. In 1903, Josef (72), his wife Sili (60) and his daughter's Terez (24) and Fanny (18?) took the Pennsylvannia steamer from Hamburg, Germany to New York City.[13][14] Some time before 1916, Sara was widowed and returned to Budapest[6][7]

* Family legend lists Roza MAHLER a cousin of the Czech composer Gustav MAHLER. If so, Jozsef would be a brother of Gustav's father Bernard MAHLER (1827-1889). Bernard did have a brother Jozsef (also born in 1830) who was otherwise accounted for in Czechoslovakia. Bernard had another brother Leopold (1829) who is unaccounted for. If Jozsef is a brother to Bernard, his parents would be Simon MAHLER (b. Kalischt 1793) and Maria BONDY (b. Lipnice 1805 - d. Lipnice 1883). More likely, Jozsef is related to the Czech Gustav MAHLER family of from a cousin (rather than brother) of the composers father. [Gustav MAHLER genealogy]
