Occupation: "Yard Jew" (property
manager) for the Austrian aristocratic Schoenbrunn family of
Salzburg who had a hunting lodge near Munkacs. "Yard
Jews" administrated mansions, sold products, collected taxes
and helped call up the army and equipment for aristocrats.
Itzchak bought forests to prepare wood for the heating industry.
He also had vineyards. He was also a main supplier to the local
military.[14] Izsak
of Munkacs had a service that for a fee would provide documentation to get Jewish men out of military service (army
cuisine was not kosher[3]). His partner was Dr. Fedak of Bereszasz (whose
daughter Sari was a famous actress in Budapest)[8].[7]
At the time of Viktoria SALZBERGER's marriage in
1898, Izsak is listed as a wine agent in Munkacs.[16] Viktoria's
death registry entry lists her residence as Munkacs, Kertalja utca 11[16];
since she was visiting her parents from Beregszasz at the time, this was likely
Izsac & Cila's address.
